Mad River Field trip: Day 6

Second time I feel like spewing

I think day 6 of the Mad River trip for me started around 4. By breakfast I'd already been to the toilet 4 times, had a head ache and felt like throwing up.
At breakfast I sat next to a window, expecting to throw up at anytime. I only ate 1 piece of plain toast that morning. I received some medication from Mr Sarkar which helped, but my head ache remained no matter how much water I drank.

After breakfast I returned to the room. I packed my bag for another journey on the motor boat but didn't do anything else. I tried to rest for a bit.

Today we were going to travel by the motor boat and see how rope was made from coconuts.

I found Mr Sarkar outside and asked him if it were best that I stayed at the hotel instead of going on the boat. He said it was my choice. So I thought about it and decided I'd go, no matter how sick I felt. It was an opportunity to learn something, even if it sounded very boring.

So at 10 I went down to the boat, got more meds, made myself comfortable and got ready for the long journey. It took 2 hours on the boat to get there, after we were delayed by the way being blocked. At this time I was very hopefully that we were going to turn back. We didn't.
Instead we walked for 10 minutes through farms to get there.

I wasn't in the mood for taking photo's so there's not many today.

The place where they made the string was like a big house with line out the front where they made the rope.

It was even hotter than it usually was, possible due to the fact we were away from the water. When we got there everyone was sweating and looked worn out.
The people at the place cut fans out of leaves for us which reduced the heat slightly.
Most of us saw how it was made then sat down for the rest while some other people tried it out.

If you want me to explain how they make the rope drop me an email, but for now I'll just show the photo.

I started feeling very sick after a while and went a little way off in case I threw up. Mr Sarkar came and talked for about 15 minutes, about why we were here and some truths about these peoples lives. I listened from a distance but Ms Jessica made me come closer. One thing Mr Sarkar talked about was how people from Tamil Nadu frauded these poorer people. An example he gave was that the people apply for a loan of 100 dollars. They receive 90, but still need to pay back 100 + the interest.
Even though I wasn't feeling great, I appreciate that the brought us out there and it was quite eye-opening experience for me.

So we all walked back to the boat, got on and started to travel back to the hotel. We arrived there at 3:15. Many of the other students were starving but I wasn't. For lunch I ate many just plain rice.
After lunch I got some more meds and went off to bed.

There I stayed till 8 in the evening. It was such a bummer for me. Today had been the day that I was hoping to go swimming, and just enjoy the free time. The other guys in my room did go swimming, but I just stayed in bed with a bucket next to me, just in case.
After swimming the guys came back, had showers, played some more head soccer and then we all slept.

I came down for dinner at 8:15. I ate some roti, rice and double servings of chicken soup. Johan had stayed in bed for whatever reason so we took some food up for him. Moon spoon feeding Johan dinner was a hilarious sight. We were saying all the baby lines like 'here comes the aeroplane' and making silly baby faces.

After he was done eating, Johan and Moon started to play fight. Vishnu was outside on the balcony on his phone.
Johan and Moon stopped fighting once an old wound of Johan's opened up.

After receiving the first aid, and little sympathy we all came back to our room and talked. Vishnu came back from another room and we all were just chatting. Then Mr Sarkar came and told everyone to leave because I was feeling sick. For that I am very grateful. So I began to get ready for bed, put my music on and tried to get to sleep.

I fell asleep at 10:30.

To the final conclusion of this not-so-epic tale
