Mad River Field trip: Day 4

More rowing, resting and reading

My sleep ended at 7:40, got ready and did my morning stroll whilst waiting for breakfast.
I found some of the teachers sitting next to the river. I pulled a seat off the pile and joined them for a while as we watched the sunrise and the other students slept.
After about 10 minutes I went to check on breakfast, found that it was there, and ate some. It was the same as the previous day, except with a tomato omelet.
This tomato omelet had onion and tomato in it (my mums probably smiling evilly already). I "strongly dislike" both tomato and onion. I tried my best to remove the large chucks but no matter how hard I tried I couldn't remove it all without destroying the omelet. And with that I endure the onion, and had a nice breakfast.

After breakfast I returned to the room and did my routine of getting ready for rowing. After putting on enough sunscreen I lay on my bed a bit while the others rested.
Whilst doing so Mr Irfan came and told us to get down to the canoes, it was 9:30 at that time.
Today Vishnu and Johan were planning on going with Moon, so instead I went with Shivang and Vidyuth and we canoed first.

We started out by going the same way as the previous day, but after an hour or so we turned right into wide canal. There was a current that was in our favour, it made for much easier and faster canoeing. We paddled down the cannal for another hour, passing farms and houses.

At points we needed to wait for the boat at the back since there were other big boats using the canal as well. So we just rafted up (got together) and put our feet in the water.

At 12:30 we stopped canoeing and people started to jump off the boat. Due to the strong current people were being pulled away from the boat and had to swim ferociously to get back.

"If you want to live, hold onto the rope!"

After a while of people jumping off then holding onto the side of the boat for dear life, people got back in the canoes and started paddling back. Little did they know of the pain that was before them.

On the boat it was very hot, like the other days. The back of my hands managed to get sunburnt, probably because the sunscreen came off from the water. I was left with red knuckles and very sore hands.

Some people enjoyed the heat...

Try to ignore the finger in the corner. Rookie error
... and got roasted in it.

Gradually, the canoes pulled into the boat and the people came onboard exhausted. Moon had managed to fall in whilst moving seats and spent the rest of the journey drying.

Some better rowers tried to battle the current. This included Mr Irfan + Mr Sarkar (who ended up in the same canoe after those they were helping got tired) and Johan + Vishnu. There were only 3 canoes left out in the water.

One boat lagged behind and we needed to wait for them whilst the 2 other canoes went of into the distance. When the crew of the struggling crew came aboard, they were completely exhausted.

So we travelled back to the hotel, and found the other 2 canoes already there. The teachers had had an epic race with Johan and Vishnu, which ended in a narrow teacher victory of approximately 3 seconds.
It was 2:45 then, breakfast had been at 8:30. We were famished.
We all went straight to lunch and I grabbed seconds.

To honour the epic battle between the students and the teachers, Mr Irfan treated us (we 4 boys in our room) a Thumbs Up each. A Thumbs Up is in fact a drink very similar to a Coke, own by the Coka-Cola company, looks the same colour, and tastes microscopically different to normal Coke.

After lunch, much chilling was done by myself and others. I had a shower, and rested till 4:30.
At 4:30 I went out and found a nice place outside to read. I sat and read till 5 in peace.

It was then tea time and I ate some nice biscuits that the hotel provided.
Afterwards I had a go at fishing. I went to the kitchens, got my bait and went fishing with Vishnu. I got nibbles here and there but caught nothing and was loosing bait fast.
Then me line gets snagged really well. I tried pulling it out this way and that but it wouldn't budge. Finally I just pulled at it and hoped my line came loose before it broke. Ofcourse... it did break.
And so my fishing days were pretty much over.

I went and saw what other people were doing, and how their fishing was going. It was becoming twilight and made for another nice view.

I went back to the room and rested till dinner time.

After dinner we got the movie ready. Since everyone was trying to get movies to watch, it became very difficult to find some and a laptop to play them on.

That night, they were rounding up everyone and making sure they were in their rooms by 10.
Whilst we waited for the other people to join us we started to watch the Hangover part 3, which wasn't bad. The other people arrived at 11:30, by which time I was nearly asleep. So I went to bed and let them watch the rest of the movie.

Click on, to the 5th day...
