Hiking highlights: Pallangi to Palani 7/9

My first D hike, felt like a couple of hikes thrown into one.
The hike went from 6:30 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon. There was swimming, infuriating thorns, great views and overall a very enjoyable hike.

Here's the description of the hike from school:
With the new road into the Pallangi valley, we'll drive further in. A jungle hike, with both ups and downs and amazing views of cliffs, gorges Palani Dam. This hike ends with a steep down hill and pickup at Palani Dam.

On the way back, we went through a couple of villages. There were children riding along the dam and they waved and yelled hello at us in the buses. They'd look at me with interest, it was quite funny.
The drive back from the dam went up the road Antonia and I took to get to Kodai for the first time back on July the 19th. Brought back quite a few memories and saw familiar sights.

I was thinking about how I felt then and now, there were a lot of differences. The fear of riding in a car with no seat belts, using the horn around turns, the close proximity to other vehicles, the feeling of awe and excitement.

Anyways, it was a very nice hike and I hope you enjoy the pics.

Walking along the river in the middle of the valley

There was construction going on the dam, these trucks gave
us a lift across the river to the buses

On Thursday this week the long weekend begins.
It's the end of quarter break for the school, and it goes from the thursday to the following tuesday.
A lot of the students travel home to see their families but I'm going to be doing the 80 mile hike. It's a 4 day hike that goes around to some of the most remote parts of the area.
I'm looking forward to it. Will be a challenge but a great opportunity. Hopefully my camera battery will last...

Will try to post an update soon.

I hope you like the pics.
